Cd writer says disk is not formatted?
Just recently my Cd drive has decided not to work. Although it is there, whatever CD i have in there, when i click on it to either open or expore it, it tells me that "the disk is not formatted do you want to format now?" What is going on? Anyways, It is an LG CD-RW, and I am running on win2k. I have tried uninstalling it and re installing it, and also i uninstalled adaptec Easy cd creator, thinking that that might of had something to do with it, but nothing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Dez

What type of disc are you trying to use? A regular CD-R or a CD-R/W? If you're using CD-R/W discs you'll need to format them before you can use them.

Thanks for your quick reply. I've tried both. I always get the same thing. It pops up just like it would for a floppy disk. I've never seen this happen before..any ideas?

I've actually had the same problem with my CD drives. I have a Lite-On CD-RW, but this might work with your problem. I flashed the newest BIOS available for my motherboard and I also updated the firmware for my CD drive. Try doing those.

I get that particular error when some of my media is bad. To check it, what I'd do is:
1) Buy some new media, try a different brand.
2) Turn off whatever packet-writing software that may be on: DirectCD or InCD.
3) Insert new disk and boot up burning software and try to copy something.
If if works, great. Then, you can:
4) Turn back on InCD/DirectCD and see if you get the same error.
If you do get the same error:
5) Uninstall all burning software and reinstall.
If you don't:
6) You're okay, it was just bad media.
If you had to reinstall:
7) Retry burning stuff.
If it does work, you're okay; if not, buy a new burner-- they're cheap. Or you could try updating the firmware at that point, which you are ready to buy a new one. Then, if that works for you- more power to you!

thanks | Hmph. Well, if you have tried everything, including new media, the only other thing you could try would be some new data cables.
Does this burner act ok as reader? Can you install software from it and play music CDs??

It's possible the Aspi32 layer has become corrupted. Download the latest version from Adaptec and reinstall it ...if you haven't already!
