Kids Kudos to Epox

I have capacitor leaking problems with an Epox 8K7A.
I bought the thing more than 2 years ago, and they are going to fix it outside of warranty for shipping charges only.

Dear User,
If this is the case, although the board is out of warranty at this time we will extend a one time courtesy RMA service for you to replace the capacitors. Please reply back with your address, phone, name, and board S/N.

Pretty good support IMHO.
Now since I am sending the mobo out for repair, I am hoping I will not need to format and re-install windows.
What happens if they send me back another 8K7A, but with a different serial number ?

And thanks

armadel

Wow that is good support. Why would it matter if the send you a different one, as long as the capacitors are leak free.

Thanks darth

What I was worried about was what another thread had asked.
It talked about what had to be done if a mobo is changed.
Most people said reformat and reload.
So, does this quailfy as a mobo change ?
What happens if they send me another 8K7A and it might have, perhaps a different BIOS version, etc.
I know that if I get back the exact same mobo with just the Caps replaced, it should plug right in.
But they might not want to get down to board level repair.

and did I say thanks again.

You don't have to reformat and reinstall windows if put a new (same) motherboard.
It has the same contents so the OS will not notice any difference because the drivers are the same for both.

If you changed the motherboard to a new one from a new maker or new model with different chipset then a reformat is recommended.

About Epox .. they Rock.

I got 8KHA+ and they updated the BIOS to make it handle an XP2600+.. it was a great gesture because they could've recommended buying a new board from them instead of updating an old product.
