Well, I wouldnt buy a notebook just because of its look, I would rather have an ugly notebook that performs like a dream than a super cool notebook that performs crappy. As for which one, get the Toshiba IMO, since they make excellent notebooks that perform very well. The Satellite notebooks are exteremly powerful and I really love their fans since they are very strong but still silent. The Sony notebooks are okay, but they really can't compare to a Toshiba IMO. My father has a Sony notebook and I can tell you that its one of the best looking notebooks that I've seen, but it really doesnt perform that well, its battery life is short, and its heavy. Although it comes with a lot of great extras, the Toshiba is the way to go. Sony do make quality things, but I really don't like their notebooks that much, and they are expensive. Hope this helps and good luck!

Ive a friend with a Toshiba and it turned into a mess right when the warranty expired---first the hinge for the screen fizzled---sounds like you are opening a rusty gate and the screen blinks in and out, now the kb is taking a poop and it wont type certain keys---I doubt its been away from his house 4-5 times and has had probably less then 100 hours use---he paid about 1800$ for it and I expect him to snap it in half pretty soon, only thing thats saved him from doing it so far is I loaned him a kb/mouse+monitor to plug into it...
Id check out the extended warranty if you decide to buy one---

Edit---> Check out Sager laptops

Thanks but in our city "New Delhi", we can't find Sager Laptops. Dell, Toshiba, Sony, HP, Compaq, IBM are the major players.

tkop, maybe your friend just got bad luck with his Toshiba notebook. In my experiences Toshiba has been one of the brands that I most like for notebooks. As BizKid said they do make one of the best notebooks out there. I still defend my point and I must say I wouldnt recommend a Sony notebook for someone actually, since as I said my dad has one and he has some issues that just can't be fixed. One of them is that he can't make his screen lighter or darker, that option doesnt work for him. I also believe Toshiba makes the best fans for notebooks, and by experience Sony fans are really bad. Fans are important to keep the system cool and my dad's notebook is not. As for all those brands that you mensioned that you can find a New Delhi, well if I would choose one brand between all these I would definetely choose IBM for a notebook. Simply because I think they make the best quality notebooks around, but they are expensive though, but for people that have the cash I would definetely recommend them. Im glad I could help you Good Luck

I bought me a Toshiba A25-S207 and it is rock-solid.

Intel Pentium 4 2.66 GHz
512 MB DDR SRAM
40 GB IDE Portable
CD-RW / DVD-ROM
Weight 7.9
Dimensions (W x D x H) 13.4 in x 11.6 in x 1.9 in
Form factor Portable
15 in TFT active matrix
Video RAM installed 32
Network adapter
Modem Fax / modem Integrated
Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition
Wireless Network Adapter

The colors are awesome on it (metallic blue, silver, black).
The only drawback I found was that it was a little heavy and it was hard to find a laptop bag to fit it. Other than that I give it a 9.5 out of 10. (I never give 10s out)
