Can someone tell me whats wrong with this ram i bought?.. heres some specs from sisoftsandra i looked at the mother board.

Bank 1 - DIMM 1 : DIMM Synchronous DRAM 256MB/64 @ 100Mt/s
Bank 2 - DIMM 2 : DIMM Synchronous DRAM 128MB/64 @ 100Mt/s

Memory Module 1 : Micron 16LSDT3264AG-133E1 63238BE3 256MB 16x(16Mx8)SDRAM PC133U-333-532 (CL3 upto 133Mhz) (CL2 upto 100Mhz)
Memory Module 2 : Kingston 32MX64PC133CL31681A15B900 256MB 8x(16Mx16) SDRAM PC133U-333-542 (CL3 upto 133Mhz) (CL2 upto 100 Mhz)

Ok. I bought this ram as 256MB. Some of the stuff here, except what my compouter is reconizing it as, says it is 256MB. I am talking about te Kingston STICK. It said on the box, that it is a 256MB stick. But my compouter will not reconize it as 256MB. anyone else know anything more here? Like is this really 128MB? i have checked the ram on bios, it says 128MB. i have flashed my motherboard with the newest bios. MY computer is a Hewlett Packard Pavillion 520w. and my mohter board supports 512MB total ram.
thanks for any help.

Do you have onboard video? Onboard video uses your system's memory.

I do not know the complete answer, but I have seen the same thing. As a matter of fact, I have a stick of PC100 256 mb on hand now, that would only be recognized as 128 mb in a socket 7 FIC 503+ motherboard. I have other computers, and extra boards. I tested that stick of ram in everything I had, and they all read it as 256 mb...except the 503+.

I never did find out why..there is nothing wrong with the ram module..it has to be a compatability issue between the ram and the FIC board.

I wrote FIC..and asked why or if they could offer any advice etc. As usual, FIC does not answer e-mails to their customer service or tech help departments. I have also trashed that board.

The Micron double sided? The Kingston I bet isn't. It probably cannot read the 8x(16x16) where it can recognize the 16x(16x8).

i think that was the problem. the kingston ram i bought was a newer kind of ram, and i took it back. i read some websites, and i have now got an order fora 256mb micron pc133 with 16x8. ... my micron is got ram chips on both sides, the kingston, had black, ram chips on both sides, but half as many. and it said 256 ram. my onboard video takes up 2mb of ram, no matter if its disabled or not. ill be gettting my ram, as soon as i get someone with a credit card , to finish my order now.

yup, high density RAM only works in some computers. I tried a 256 chip in a HP and it wouldn't work with it in any configuration...I ended up getting a 128mb stick for it instead that wasn't high density.
