Video Prob (I Think)

Heya all,
This is the third time that this has happened to me, i get home from school and my computer just doesnt want to do anything that involves video or 3D (im assuming this is what is). It does not want to play any games, or even the screen saver doesnt wanna work and 3D Mark 2001 doesnt work either. What happens when I click on any of these applications is the computer just freezes. I can't click on anything and then when i click the mouse a few times it totally freezes, even the mouse freezes and doesn't move at all. The first time that I had this happen I reinstalled the Graphics drivers and then that fixed it. The second time that this happened i tried reinstalling the graphics drivers again but that didnt work, so then i went to Nvidia and got the latest ones and that fixed it. But now it has happened again and this time reinstalling drivers just won't fix it. I once again went to Nvidias site to look for some later drivers but i allready have the latest ones in. Then i tried some drivers that are about 10 months old that didn't work either still gave the same prob. Then i gave it a go with the generic drivers, It went to work but it didn't have the Open GL that it needed, (this was with RTCW). Surely it can't be a problem with my video card seeming as the drivers usually fix the prob and that it went to work with the generic drivers but because it didn't have Open GL it wouldn't work.

The Specs of my PC is this:
AMD Athlon XP 1800+
512 MB DDR PC2700 RAM
GeForce 4 MX 440 64MB
Seagate 80GIG HDD

This is really driving me insane that I can't fix the problem this time, i have also Uninstalled the drivers every time that i put the newest ones in. Also I reinstalled DirectX 9.0 hoping that would fix it but that didn't work either.
Does anybody have any ideas? Any help that I can get will be much appreciated.

Perhaps the video card itself it abit flaky? Have ya contacted the retailer you bought it from? Perhaps they will swap it for another one?

Motherboard chipset drivers (or the absence of any) can cause such as this..especially with Nvidia cards and drivers.

Some versions of DirectX are also known to cause problems with video..again, it seems to affect Nvidia video systems more than others.

Sound and video drivers sometimes fight a lot.. lockups are many times caused by driver conflicts.

You may simply have a corrupt video driver, you can completely uninstall what you have, then reinstall the dirvers to get everything new again. Two ways to uninstall the drivers would be to use a non Nvidia card and get it running on Windows VGA drivers..or, maybe get the Nvida card running on Windows VGA drivers...you cannot uninstall the working drivers..so, some means must be provided to release them during uninstall.

When was the last time you had a format & re-install of everything?

Perhaps a clean install of everything will get things running sweet again...

And yeh, like bovon suggested, maybe try new chipset drivers & sound drivers.

Thanks for the replys guys, but today i turn on the computer and it works again
But i do know for a fact that it is going to do it again, so i will try updating the things that you said Bovon.

Also JayMan I do think that there may be something wrong with the card i will look into that. Also XP has been installed onto a fresh new HD about 2 1/2 months ago.
