how to combine pictures?

What's a good free program that you can download to combine several pictuers into one?

You can do that in "Paint" or ACD See that usually comew with
Windows XP. just use the "edit" cut and paste tools, then "save as" a new picture when you are done.

Open Irfan and select >IMAGE--- then >create panorama image---select horiz/vert and >add images then >create

Like that ??

I used the gimp........ didn't do a real good job of patching them together....... but it did work... was my very first attempt.

The gimp has versions for windows or linux.

Oh, i guess i didn't word it right. When i meant to put together into one, i meant like taking different pictures and placing them wherever you want manually like dragging and dropping. Is there a program taht lets you do that?
