HP pavilion won't boot

I have HP pavilion XH136 intel celeron 600mhz, It has Windows XP on it.
I went to class when I came back, the screen saver had locked itself. even I tried to use ctrl alt del but didn't work so I pushed the power button and shut down.

I waited for 5 minutes and pushed the button to start it, but it wouldn't boot. nothing on the screen and only the fan makes noise. could it be my hard drive is dead?

Please any help is appreciated

Your hard drive probably isn't dead. If it were, you would have gotten some sort of message when you tried to turn on the computer. (Although I wouldn't rule a dead hard drive out)

- Does the 'hard drive' show any activity? (most HP's have a light that flickers when the hard drive is accessed)

- Have you tried plugging your laptop into another outlet?

- Have you tried unplugging it, removing the battery (or any other removable parts), and then putting them back in and trying it again?

It may be that something came loose. Gently tap the computer all over, and see if it boots. (I had a laptop that would freeze if I tapped it in the right place)

Otherwise, it might be the actual system board inside gone bad, which would need to be replaced. Or... it could be the memory, or.. (it could be many things hardware related)

This is the fix:

support.microsoft.com
Knowledge Base Article: KB823348

Please post and email me if you ever have the same problem again after applying the registry fix to winxp
