Maximize my 1.5mbps line's potential

I'm trying to get the most speed out of my internet for my comp. I have a linksys 8 port router with all the ports being used. Will putting my line in the 1st port help boost the speed more than port 8. Also, this is kind of hard to explain but here I go: I got a router hooked directly to the incoming DSL line. Then from all the ports are 8 little cat5 wires connected to wall jacks. Each jack on the wall extends the line to a certain part of my house. Once my line gets to my room it is converted back into a jack. From there I plug in a cat5 wire to that jack and my ethernet card. Will just running a cat5 line directly from the router to my comp make it faster? it won't have to go as far and the wire wont be split up.

Everytime you go through a "plug" you lose some bandwidth, but we ate taking maybe 100 bits of data. that wouldn't make a difference.

As long as you are on the first jack, you should be fine.

Make sure you have your windows configered correctly to hadle broadband:

Also, I heard of cat6 wire, will that work with my router and ethernet card if I'm using cat5. Is cat6 faster? Also, I have a lanparty mobo with two integrated ethernet cards. Will plugging in 2 cat5(or6) wires into my computer and router help?

Using both ports would help if you can "band" them together to give you an effective throughput of 200Mbit/sec.

Download the program and change it to somehwere between 14520 and 37752.

Using two ethernet ports won't make your internet go any faster. Your still capped at 1.5 MBS. As for lan parties, yes, using cat6 cable can make if go faster, but we are talking from 25 ping to 10 ping. Minute difference. Plus, one that cat6 goes through a slow router, you just wasted it because the router is slow.

Here is a speed test you can take (requires JAVA)
http://www.dslreports.com/stest?loc=97

And I would use 27563 as your Rwin. You are not pingable, so I took and average ping and used it. It shouldn't make a difference, but it will make your interent go faster than your 65K rwindow u have. GEEZ!
