File Sharing on W2k

I have a three node network. Two w2k machines and one w98 2e.
I want to store files from the one w2k and the win 98 to the 2nd w2k machine.

I have in Network N. file and print sharing checked along with Microsoft Client and TCP/IP. I also set up a share with network access from Explorer.

I can see the target machine from network Neighborhood but when I try to map the drive it just times out.

Does anyone have a clue to point me to?

Thanks.

Can you see the 2nd W2k machine from both the W98 and the 1st W2k machines?

Are they all in the same workgroup? What IP addresses are you using on each system? Are you running any software firewalls on any of them?

Also, can you do a UNC to any? ( \\computername\sharename)
And can you ping each IP from all systems?

Let's see the w98 os ....4,
w2k file server ....10
w2k pro wk station .....3

I use a DHCP host to provide addresses.
I did find that the w98 zone alarm setting were the problem.
Also the W2k was in the original "Workgroup for Windows" workgroup not the one I set up... so I fixed that and now that machine connects fine as well.

thanks...

Send a message via Yahoo to muno
Workgroup is irrelevant.

Usually firewalls block netbios traffic, and might do so even if you set the safe network to something.
