Laptop Cooling Problem

I have a IBM Thinkpad A22m and it gets very hot after I use it for about an hour. Lately I've been using my laptop and leaving it on for 15 hours a day non-stop. A co-worker of mine said that its not good to deal your laptop on all day because it will damage the componets inside. Is this true? I've been on the internet and found a solution from a company called Hardware Cooling that sells a cooling pad for your laptop. Was wondering if anyone ever tried it? They have a variety of laptop cooling pads ranging from an all Aluminum design and a acrylic design, and a 3 fan plastic design. Which one is better.

I have attached the link to the laptop cooling pad page.

I leave mine running all of the time and so far its doing fine.
I've never tried one of those cooling stands so I cant tell you if they work or not. I would imagine that they would keep the unit a little cooler.

Before you try getting one of those you may just want to try elevation it some so air can get underneath (don't cover up the entire bottom of it though)

If that doesn't work out well try the product you linked to.

At a fabric store I bought a product they called "space mesh". It's about 1/2" thick and is a very coarse mesh that allows for totally free airflow. I just bought a scrap piece for about a dollar and trimmed it to fit under my laptop. It helps a lot.

My compaq presario laptop tends to get very hot when it's working on something, and EXTREMELY hot when i try to play dvds. I can only watch them in a cold room on it or the laptop gets so hot it shuts off.

Try creating 2 stacks of 3 or 4 pennies. Put one stack under each of the back 2 corners of your laptop. This is definatly the cheap mans way out but works. I have been using this ever since I got my new Gateway Laptop and it works like magic.

Just bought a laptop cooler from Frys. I've been using it for about 5 hours now, and it has helped tremendously. I too keep my laptop on all day and for less then $30 it is definately something to get. Keep in mind that you may leave it on all day and never notice any problems. But the number one killer of electrical components, especially hard drives is heat. Over time heat is hurting your machine, there is no doubt about that. Grab one of those coolers.....

I have the travel version myself and it does fine. Very seldom does the cooling come on.

I never like using laptop much but since they win for portable and a lot lighter than desktop.
Hot laptop is another thing coz we usually talk about hot desktop Anyways, IBM ThinkPad is cool stuff..
