Stupid,Stupid,Stupid Hard drives

I am really peed-off.I get all this back-up equipment so I don't lose valuable data anymore and I still lose data. What the heck do you have to do to make sure you don't lose data?I bought a Maxtor 250 GB external Hardrive and bought Drive Image and both failed me.What the hell good is it if it ain't gonna work when you need it?I guess I have to spend thousands and thousands of dollars and buy redundant SCSI harddrives.Of course ,I had a redundant raid setup too on my computer and it also did'nt work.So basically I lost hundreds of hours worth of data and Hundreds of dollars worth of software because they can't make a simple back-up that works right.I had this computer running in top shape too.It ran for 8 months with out a glitch. Then 2 days ago I turn it on and Windows says files were missing. So,I don't panic right away because I have all this redundant systems going on.My first line of defence was GO-Back.I went back 2 weeks and nothing worked. So,my next line was the external HD.No go either. Now my nervers are getting worse and I'm pulling hair out and cussing a blue moon.I change out my redundant HD in my raid system and my worst fears are complete. It too fails.I will never again not back up on CD rom again.Every week from now on.

i personally dont trust anything over 120gig drives and even when gettign a drive that big, thats still gambeling with alot of data...maybe im old school, but i stick with a couple 30gig drives and a controller card. backed by a nice 400+watt power supply....technology is ahead of itself regarding storage capacity vs reliability....ive seen too many horror stories regarding 120+ gig harddrives...and youve added another

I agree, my "good" stuff is on 2X 20GB Seagates, RAID0. I'd be SOL if one went out on me.

My biggest HDD currently is a 60 gigger... I only use larger hard drives for multimedia production purposes.

Hence the expression. "Do not put all your eggs in one basket"
I am going to use nothing bigger than 40 gigs per HDD.
I feel your pain!

Unfortunately, I feely our pain. I;ve had 8 drive failures (in my 2 home systems) in the last 2 1/2 years. They were all Maxtors. I have several WD drives and have had no problems. The largest I have is 60GB.

Maybe this new Maxtor drive is the solution:
