TNT2 32meg better than radeon 7000?

my friend has just bought a new comp to play cs on...but the problem is, it came with a crappy 7000. i wanted to help him out, so i dug into my old computer and pulled out a tnt2 32meg. will this perform better than the 7000?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm that is certainly debatable.. ive owned both, and neither does very good.

what version of the 7000 does he have? 32MB, 64MB or 64MB DDR?

Im personally going to put my money on the 7000, the TNT2's aren't powerful at all, even with ram.

I'd say no, since the Radeon is the Geforce generation competitor. The Rage128 was the chip ATI had in the TNT-TNT2 era.

Actually, considering the 7000 is a severely disabled Radeon architecture, you will probably find the TNT-2 to offer better performance for older games, as it offers a much improved pixel fillrate over the Radeon 7000.

However, given the bandwidth is about the same for either card, the Radeon 7000 will perform better in newer multi-texturing games, as it offers nearly 2x the texel fillrate of the TNT-2.

Personally, I would opt for the TNT-2, overclocked of course.

would counter-strike be an "older" game?

Yeap, CS officially qualifies as an "old" game. Fun, but definitely starting to show its age.

Radeon-7000 will be better performing in halfway modern games, at least if it's not one of those extreme stripdowns of the 7000 (with SDR RAM, or halved RAM bus width or such). And it is fanless.
