scsi scanner ??

Have a Mustek 600 II CD scanner cabled to a Adaptec AHA-2940AU SCSI card. Win2K
The scanner and SCSI card are both seen a system startup (post I think)
They are both in device manager with no conflicts.
Yet when I try to acquire an image scan will not work.

When I try to add the scanner to scanner & camera in control panel it will not work.
? Should there be a port for SCSI? I only have the chose of COM 1&2 and LPT1.

The scanner only has one SCSI connector and one LPT connector. Is this the terminator point?

I hope to get another scsi cable to try tonight.

Further down in the device manager, is the Adaptec card listed under SCSI Devices?

Also, you mentioned a SCSI connector and an LPT connector on the scanner. Is there a termination switch on the scanner? Oh, and what sort of SCSI connector does the scanner have (50 pin Centronics, HD50, etc.)? I'm thinking that perhaps that LPT connector is actually a 25 pin SCSI connector for earlier Macs.

In any event, if your Device Manager is seeing the Adaptec card, make sure that the scanner's Device ID isn't set to 0 or 7 and make sure it's terminated. I'm assuming here that you have no other SCSI devices on the system.

I take it you downloaded the W2K driver from their website?

I have the w2k drivers

The scanner has a HD50, DB25 and some round socket like a s-video. and a round switch. with the switch set to 7 the scanner just cycles. with the switch set to 0 it is seen by the adaptec card as scsi ID 0 Scanner. and on first boot loaded drivers.

When I used the scanner with the scanner card (ISA) it used the DB25 connector and there was no terminator at the HD50. Does the DB25 now need termination?

Both the scanner and the scsi card are in device manager with no conflicts, but after each reboot the Imaging Devices add a Unknown device. This leads me to a terminator.

? I need a DB25 terminator ?
Right

I have a HP4C scanner. it has plugs exacly like yours, including the round one for document feeder. It also has a switch to terminate. Never uses a terminator. If yours worked without a terminator I would think you have a switch to terminate

I can find NO switch other than the 0-9 ID switch.

I will go to a elect. store to get

HD50 to HD50 or
DB25 to HD50 ?

BEFORE you spend the money, set that round switch to anything between 0 and 7 and see what happens. It may just auto-terminate. That other funny round port is probably a Mac serial port connector.

Well lets see
I tried 0-7 on the switch, 0-6 is open and 7 is for scsi card. 0-6 reloads drivers on each reboot

a hd50 to hd50 cable
a hd50 to db25 cable

adaptec aha2910b and aha2940au

no conflicts in device manager and scsi and image device are there. Only problem i see is after i reboot once there is a unknown device in image device's and when I try to add scanner in control panel I only have com and lpt to choose from. this seems wrong. something is missing

According to the SCSI setup document on the Mustek web site, you should have your SCSI hooked into the 25-pin port. It does not explain what the 50-pin is for. You could open up the scanner and see how those two are related. I'm thinking that the 25-pin has termination if you use it and that the 50-pin is there for doing an external SCSI daisy chain where the last device on the chain will do the terminating - not the scanner. At least that's my best guess.
. If the scanner and SCSI adapter show up in DevMgr, you don't have to do any further hardware installation.
. Good luck on getting the scanner software working.
