Windows 2k3 reinstall

Im trying to fix my win 2k3 install. How would I go about just reinstalling my basic system files and keeping every thing configured the same way. In win98 I just installed over it. With 2k3 would I use the recovery console? Whats the best way to fix my install?

I have the demo version right now of the enterprise edition. And I want to fix my install with the demo then upgrade to a full legit version of the OS but not enterprise edition web edition. If I have to I can go enterprise edition. I have an acount at MSDN.

I know how to get you through the repair. Just start up the install as if you are going to install it fresh. Keep going even past the license agreement. Then it will search for previous versions of Windows and detect that you have it installed. It will ask you if you want to repair it or do a clean install. I have had to do that once before...as a matter of fact it was yesterday. It didn't help so I ended up doing a fresh install. If you do what I just said you will just have to setup basic Windows things like screensavers and junk like that if you ever use it for that purpose but, IIS and things like that will stay fine.

I wouldn't think that you can go from enterprise to web edition because well, web edition has all different features of it than enterprise.
The only way that I could think of is to do a repair using the full cd from msdn.

I think I will probably just end up backing up all my files. I went through your steps and it worked to fix my problem but I still have others that it didnt fix. So I think I will probably do a clean install of the web edition next. It will probably be easier to convert to a work station any ways. Im not gaming but I use the OS to design graphics, webpages, and work in ACAD.

When I first installed windows 2k3 I installed with out burning it to a CD but when I tried doing that with the full version from MSDN today it wouldnt let me. I extracted the ISO to a folder on my C drive but it wouldnt let me run setup. Is there any thing that would prevent me from being able to do it this time? Is it the fact that its the full version? I ended up using the demo again but its about to expire.
