nVidia RIVA TNT2 Model 64 failure. need help

My computer has WinXP Pro and I bought the nVidia RIVA TNT2 Model 64 card about a year ago. It worked well for a while, then Microsoft started trying to update the driver. Well, I found that the driver from Windows update didn't work, so I downloaded the driver from nVidia's site. It worked great again. From time to time MS will cram the bad drivers onto my computer, which I've always been able to easily undo. This time though, no matter which drivers I use (original, MS update, or new nvidia ones), it goes to 600 x 800 resolution with 4 Bit color. Does anyone know of a way to fix this? I've tried everything I know. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it several times, with the same result.

I have never update my NVdia display or whatever. It works fine with me for 3 years now.
If you are looking for any cool display drivers, simply check urs at:
http://www.download.com

I would suggest you don't really have to update your display. It works just fine as it is, unless if ur running a program that needs a greater display, then update them. Or just just simply cancel the automatic updates.
Try reinstall your Win XP again. Your data in your drive won't take any effect. This solution is the lasting you could do.
