9600pro vs ti4400
Which card? they are both around the same price (i think)
or should i shell the xtra cash out and get the 9500pro?
i am buying a system next weekend:
Athlon 2600+ Barton
ASUS A7N8x deluxe m/b
512MB DDR 400 (PC 3200) Kingston RAM
80GB Seagate m/b 7200rpm
nVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4400
Sony 16x48x DVD/CD
LG 52x40x52 CD-R/RW
1.44MB FDD
ATX Case
400W PSU
Logitech Optical USB mouse
Microsoft Internet Keyboard
I already got them to change the m/b from a A7V8X-X, and the RAM from no-name PC2700 to Kingston PC3200
I was wondering, should i keep the GeForce4 or get them to change it too? its costing me $900 australian for this so far ($585 US)
My card picks are the 9600Pro and the 9500Pro, but im not sure if i have the money for the 9500Pro. Would the 9600Pro be better than the Ti4400?

$585
Wow, that's a nice price for that setup!
If I were in your situation, I'd get the 9600pro over the Ti4400... It'll have DX9 compatibility.... Not saying the 4400 is a bad card, but the 9600 will probably last longer.
The 9500pro is a nice card, and if you had the cash, get one... But if not, the 9600 will be plenty good. |

yeah i thought the price was pretty good myself, thats why im buying it!
i worked out that it would cost me roughly twice that to build it myself, so just gonna buy it in one piece (not as fun though)
im gonna ask what extra it will cost to swap with the 9600Pro and also for 9500Pro
He only charged me $70 extra australian ($45US) to swap the mobo and the RAM, so maybe it will be pretty cheap...
just gotta save the cash, will definately have it by next weekend though
bear in mind though, that price is without OS or any software, and without monitor (which i already have)
If its within my price range, I will definately get the 9500Pro

ok i have found some 3dmark projects with 3dmark 03 build 330, with athlon xp 1800-2000mhz, running default benchmark tests
here we go
gf4 ti4400 - 1614 3dmarks
9600pro - 3849 3dmarks
9500pro - 4952 3dmarks
could there really be this much of a gap?
this is as high as i could find for seperate tests, is there somewhere where i can just look at these stats (with same cpu, m/b etc) to see stats that are REALLY comparable?

well, the reason why there is so much of a GAP, is because the ATI cards are DirectX 9 cards... While the 4400 is only a DX8 card. And 3dmark 2003 is a DX9 Test.
That is why there is such a difference.
It may be different if it was a 3dmark 2001 test... Which is DX8

i found a good place to see 3d accelerator benchmarks
Toms VGA Charts, Part 1 (Higher systems, p4 3.06G, Athlon 2700+) http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic...218/index.html
Part 2 (Lower systems, Athlon 100+, vs faster system, Athlon 2700+ [same sys as used in part 1]) http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic...120/index.html
In almost every test, the ti4400 outscores the 9500pro
If the 9500Pro is pretty cheap to swap to, then I will get it, otherwise I will stick to the Ti4400 and leave the 9600Pro

there u go, they r using 3dmark 2001SE in the above tests. I'd still rather the 9500pro, but I dont think ill swap the ti4400 for a 9600pro
plus the tests are so close, there is really no difference between the two
.6 of a frame per second etc

ah, i see another advantage to the radeon boards, in the quality tests they absolutely CRUSH the nvidia's
though the best nvidia in the test is a ti4600, and the best radeon is the 9700pro

All the newer games will be dx9. If you are a gamer than you need to go with a DX9 card.
