Music: band wants me to digitally enhance using software.

A local band asked me to digitally enhance there music by way of computer. They want to tweak voices to make them sound better for when they release songs and to basically clean up there recordings and to do every thing. I figured it would be fun. The band is a new band so it’s a learning experience for every one. I have work a little bit with this kind of stuff but I cant remember what software I used. Any one has any software suggestions. Shareware would be nice but I can purchase if I have to. I am kinda broke but I may be able to find some money.

Try Fruity Loops. I have heard it works great. But I have not tried it.

No. Fruity Loops is sequencing type application. IOW it's a fancy drum machine/sampler/looper/and whatnot. It's great for helping you make music, but not for editing or enhancing it.

I think Steinberg's Wavelab is the best. It is to music what Photoshop is to pictures. But also, like PS it ain't cheap. But there is a trial download version...I'm not sure how it's limited though, but it must be.

This is what I use at home.!
I'm not any good with it but I can understand most of it.!
It has built-in effects and a bunch of stuff.!
You should look at it and they have a trial version also.!

BTW, if you want to listen to some SoundForge Music Examples, you can go to my page and download a song.! hehehe..! (the only one with lyrics is The Sad Song)

http://gelocks.topcities.com

BTW quality varies because of the amp and different soundcards.! A GOOD SOUNDCARD is a must for Home Recording.! Too bad mine sucks.!

What does the band currently have/use? Are you talking about editing the band's pre-existing 2-track masters or actually doing the multi-track recordings for them?

Do they have analog multi-track tapes (like from a 4 or 8 track cassette machine) that you'd be transfering to the computer or would you be mixing the multi-track source into the computer to create a 2-track master? Or perhaps they have a digital multi-track machine?

For multi-tracking, Adobe Audition (was Cool Edit Pro, until Adobe purchased Syntrillium) would be a good choice. While not as powerful as Cubase SX, it's much easier to learn and loads of cash cheaper. As was mentioned, Sound Forge is a good choice for 2-track editing and is easier to learn/use and cheaper than WaveLab.

I haven't checked out any of the freeware options so can't speak to those... I bought Cool Edit Pro and Sound Forge when I purchased (financed) my M-Audio Delta 66 card.

I'm semi-Pro at this (occasionally earning $ on the side) and the Cool Edit Pro/Sound Forge combo has been more than adequate for the many projects I've done. If Cubase/WaveLab = Photoshop then Cool Edit/Sound Forge is it's Paint Shop Pro equivalent. Not quite as many options but it's cheaper, user friendly and gets the job done.
