Wow. Driving games dead?

Holy crapalooza. Is the driving game scene utterly dead or what? There hasn't been a post in this forum for a week!

[sigh] Someone has got to come out with a good (ie, something that doesn't have NFS in the title) driving game/sim sometime soon. This is getting pathetic.

I think what they really need to make is something like Gran Turismo 3, only where you can take your cars online and race others

Now that would be pimped.

I dont know about the younger generation but those of you in your 20 somethings and older might remember a great show called Starsky & Hutch. Well a game is being developed from that TV show and I read your gonna be able to take on some fancy driveing in the "Red Tamato"

You can read more about it at http://www.starsky-and-hutch.com/starthere.htm

I love driving games with GTA3(PS2) & GT3(PS2) being my favorites right now. NFS series was pretty fun.

I dont know if Starsky & Hutch will be very good or not but it's new

It looks like its being released on PC & PS2

What I want to see is someting with a Gone in 60 seconds kind of gameplay, where you actualy have to break into the cars and use your tools. And your character stats improve the more you do it... unlike GTA3 where all you do is pull the driver out of a moving vehicle...

Well GT4 is due next year with 6-way multiplayer (broadband I guess) and 500 cars.
Colin McRae4 is out soon, if not now.
And for the real petrolhead, take a trip here

Its a pity really, driving games have always been more of a concept for the console market. There are some brilliant driving games that are only available on consoles or they take ages to come to PC. Codemasters for example make very good driving games which get released for console and then maybe after ages come to the PC. I really would like to see some good PC specific driving games and that way developers could take advantage of PC hardware and not have to worry about porting to console.

Got the demo yesterday. VERY arcade-ish. Might be kinda fun for a short time, but overall it does NOT look promising.

If you didn't say Xbox I'd be intrigued. No thanks.

That doesn't sound even remotely like a driving game/sim. Sounds more like hybrid RPG/shooter in which your character sometimes gets to drive a car. No thanks.

I know all about Racing Legends. It's the sort of game I dream about. But if I had to lay cash down on a bet, I'd bet it's going to remain vaporware.

Really? I didn't know that.

Really? I didn't know that one either. I guess we have different definitions of "brilliant".

AFAIC all console games can stay on the consoles. They shouldn't even waste time porting them. If they were designed for the console then leave 'em there. I've yet to experience a single ported game that was any good…especially in the driving genre.
