Prime95 Failure 2500+

Got my 2500+ today and hooked it up. Overclocked it to 200x12 = 2400mhz and with Corsair XMS PC3200 ram next to it @ Cas 2-3-3-6.

When I run prime95, I get random reboots. I keep raising the Vcore, and it's @ 1.9 right now. I didn't think I should have to raise the ddr voltage since its running st spec speeds, but I did anyway from 2.5 default to 2.6. Darn Epox 8RDA+ only has 3 ddc voltage setting 2.5 (default), 2.6, 2.77, and auto.

Any ideas?

Just clock it to 200x11 and it shoud run fine, in fact it should be recognized as a 3200+.

i want faster

EDIT: k, i lowed the multiplier back down to 11. Now running @ 11 x 200 and read as a 3200+ at stock vcore. Lets me if prime runs now.

Erm, I'm not positive on this, but I think the Corsair XMS series will run at 2.77VDimm when it's set to default. Also, with my 8RGA+, I'm able to up the VDimm all the way to 2.9. You might want to flash the BIOS and see if that lets you up the VDimm any more. If I remember correctly, the max VDimm setting on my old 8RDA+ was 2.9, as well.

FYI, Corsair XMS series RAM is warrantied all the way up to 2.8Vdimm, so don't worry about running it at 2.77Vdimm for warranty purposes.

Info on that is here:

As far as the instability, that's around a 600MHz overclock right there. Sure, some chips can handle it, some can't. How are you cooling it with that kinda VCore? It's also been my experience that the 8RDA+ boards generally undervolt everything a tad, so you may want to keep an eye on the voltages using the utility that came with the board.

The sweet spot for my 2800+ (earlier revision, purchased within the first two weeks of barton availability) seems to be around 2300MHz (11.5x200 right now) at a 1.7VCore. I have gotten it to boot at 2500MHz, but that was waaay to unstable for me, and at a 2.0VCore even with water cooling it managed to get into the high 50's under load. 2400 I can get stable at a 1.85Vcore, but it's a little too warm here for me to keep it like that and not worry. I'm spoiled by my water cooling, I don't like seeing full load temps over 45C.

You're going to have to check out your temps when running Prime95 at those levels, make sure you're not re-booting cause the thing is overheating.

Well? Did prime run at 11x200? If it did then an Athlon XP 3200+ for 90 bucks (I assume thats how much you paid for the Barton 2500) is a good deal. Im gonna be running a simular set up so if you can run prime at 11x200 on stock voltage you'll put me in a very good mood What kind of HSF you running? I'll be using a Vantec AeroFlow. My mobo is an Abit NF7-S and I'll be using Kingston HyperX 3200 ram, so we'll have very simular systems and if you can get yours to a 3200 that will bode well for me. ABIT AND EPOX<-----Enthusiasts choice :0

Well, it seems to be running fine @ 11x200 but I haven't run prime95 for more than 15 minutes. It's running right now. We will see. I don't think I have it at stock core thought. I belive I have it @ 1.7V. I think. Epox temp prob thingy wont work right now.

I know the a 3200+ is great for $90, but I just wanted to push thing thing to the max. I guess the 2500's just like to be at 3200+ it seems that everybody on the internet gets them there, but can't go higher.

I kind of forgot to tell all you guys about my cooling.

Custom built my my own hands:

Yes I cut that window.

Yeap. Yeah that should be sufficient cooling, I hope.

Yeah, that'll do it alright.

And that's been the observation I've made about the initial release bartons. My 2800+ won't make the same with a water cooling setup.

EDIT: Btw, I forgot to mention how darn nice that setup looks. It is teh roxxorz. Yeah.

Thx, worked hard on it. Once my school work slows down I hope to write a article about what I learned from building it. 3 monthes ago I practically didn't know what water-cooling was. Now look.

Yeah I was going to do the same thing ... then found myself with inadequate pictures of it and I'm too lazy to tear the thing apart to get some
