Bios will boot, but not OS

I just recently built a computer with the following specs:

Asus a7n8x Deluxe
AMD XP 2600+
512mb Geil pc 3200
Asus GeForce FX5200
DVD-rom
Floppy Drive
Matrox 60gb hard from my old comp (so i wouldn't have to reinstall OS)

The problem is that the BIOS will boot fine, but windows xp won't load. I disconnected everything except HD and Graphics Card, but still same problem. I tried another hard drive and still same problem. At one time, the computer told me that the Ram test failed, but I only heard that once.

I used my windows xp cd to boot the computer, and it seemed to go into windows xp setup flawlessly.

Can anyone help me with this. If i reinstalled XP, do you think that would work?

Thanks in advance

Unless the system you pulled the HDD from was pretty much exactly the same, then it probably won't boot.

Usually w/ such hardware changes, reinstalling the OS is really the only good answer to your problem.

You could put the HDD back into the old PC and go in and delete everything in Device Manager that is different from the new hardware. But, that could still cause instability issues in the future.

Just bite the bullet and reinstall XP.
