new install of office 2000....

Hopefully someone can help me.

First some history:
Our Gateway pc was purchased with Win 98 SE and Office 2000 SR-1, 2-disk set. Given the software problems plagued by our 98 system, I recently set up a clean install of XP Professional on this same system. Everything works fantastic.

The issue: I want to install the Office 2000 disks onto this computer again with the XP, but It prompts me for the product code on the jewel case. I don't have the jewel case anymore, so how do I locate the product key codes for the Office 2000 SR-1 disks so that I may again install them on to the original computer, but with a new OS?

Thanks in advance.

You can't. That code was the product activation key as opposed to a traditional product key. You'll have to buy a new license in order to use that copy. You'd be better of waiting and getting a copy of the new Office 2003 when it is released on October 21'st.

P.S. I just noticed that I've been helping people here since I was four years old. I always knew I was a genius, I guess this is proof. I think my post count is messed up though, it should be somewhere in the neighborhood of ten million or so.

Jake, shouldn't you be out practicing after the game you had Sunday?

Anyway, do you have the original receipt from the gateway purchase that shows Office 2000 as part of the purchase? You can check around to see if you can find a "cheap" product key to use with out violating the EULA.

I also hear that the product key is on the CD but i dont know how to get it and i dont know if anyone can get to it.
