Windows product activation

I've seen quite aq few error messages, but no this one until now. "A problem is preventing Windows from accurately checking the license for this computer. Error code: 0x800900006"
The gory details. WinXP. I have been trying to swap HD's. with no luck. Tried copying partition to partition using partition Magic but no boot. (MBR?) So I gave up until I get a drive copy program. I pulled out the second HD to hook my CD back up and now I get that message when I log on and Windows immediately logs me off. Any idea what I may have done?

FYI: its a legal copy of XP

Send a message via Yahoo to muno
Put that 'A problem is preventing <blah blah>' in google search box and you'll get many many suggestions.

Well. I looked those up, but all the fixes and workarounds require getting into the registry. I've tried booting to safe mode, unsuccessful. Looks like it might be reinstall time.
