I just asked this same question in a thread a couple days ago. Everyone is recommending linksys to me which is the way i would tend to lean anyway as ive never had problems with my linksys gear but the temp d-link router im borrowing right now goes screwy all the time.

The router should work with any OS. It doesn't require any drivers to use. On the other hand, the wireless adapter you use will most likely require drivers. So that's what you should be investigating.

I use a Linksys wireless router. Mine's an 802.11b version, though. I've got one PC hooked to a Linksys wireless bridge (which also requires no drivers) and I have an Orinoco Gold PCMCIA card in my laptop. Not one single problem out of either of them in the last 8 months.

If you're planning on hooking up a PC using the wireless, you should consider using a wireless bridge. The extra cost will be worth the investment. You can hang a hub off the bridge and have multiple PCs on the wireless LAN.

OK since i need to know if the pci card is compatible then is the linksys WMP54g comaptible with linux and if not which other wireless G pci adapters are. also does it have to be a pci adapter that is made by linksys or can it be made by another company, if its made by another company will there be compatibility issues?

the linksys g router is wi fi compatible meaning any g or b card that is wifi compatible will work with the router.
