sound only on right channel

my sound is now working only on one channel (which is the right channel, cant get any sound from the left one)

i tried switching cables from the computer to the sound system, i tried also using headphones that i know work properly and it did the same thing

i also tried a different sound card and its still doing the same thing

here are my system spec :

Windows XP pro
processor AMD XP 2800+
sound : nforce 2 integrated (tried also a SB live!)
1 gig of ram

sound isnt working on video on mp3 on wav on midi so doesnt seem to be related to codec

anyone got any idea before i format the computer?

Sounds you may have the balance panned to the right in the mixer console.

nah i checked that already, updated all drivers, made sure irq wasnt share with something else...

and even if i put my pane totally to the left i still get no sound coming from there...

no the speakers are ok and as i said i tried also some headphones and it did the same thing

It's your connection. See how on the connectors there are two black stripes around them? One is for left and one is for right. Your sound port is not picking up one of them. Try jiggling it around, see if that other channel comes in.

i got two sound card, with two wires that are different and one is onboard and the other isnt the one that isnt work properly in another computer but not in that one

I have got the same problem. no solution yet.
my specs:

mainboard: a7v266-e with the 1011 bios
processor: amd 2600+
512mb ddr
geforce4 ti 4600

I also tried my onboard sound as well as a sb live! value. I am using the latest creative drivers for the sb. It is definately not my stereo, or my cable, I tried headphones too, same result. strangely both my boxes work, but they only play the left channel. no right channel on my system. If I silde the balance to the right I can hear the right channel very faint, again like the left channel on both boxes.

speaker settings are definately ok, I double checkt that. In my opinion this is a windows problem, every other part I already changed. (it is very strange that both the onboard sound and the sb live have the same problem.)

I would appreciate every hint.

btw I am also running winxp pro

Have you plugged the headphones directly into the out jack of the sound card?
