morrowind lockup

at the very beginning of the game after you take your release papers, I try to exit that building into the town and the game locks up. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Does it lockup every single time?
Morrowind is nitorious for memory leaks and crashes. First I would try dling the patch from www.bethsoft.com

It helped alot with my game crashes. Also, in the options set the sound to software acceleration rather than hardware, many of the problems with morrowind crashes are sound related, thus turning down the acceleration helps eliminate them

Locks up every time. No option like that under sound. Could my firewall (Norton), or my AV program (Norton) be havig a conflict?
