802.11b overlapping channels.

Hi everyone,
I am new here and am very excited about finding here some answers to my questions.
I would like to know if any of you guys could tell me how the channel overlapping in 802.11b networks works. I red around that channels 1,6 and 11 do not overlap, but if I look at the frequencies they do overlap...and also, what about interference?
Thanks a lot to everyone,
ajpug

Now, the problem I have is that the client sends hundreds of probe requests and receives even more probe responses (with retries). The probe requests continue even after the client associated itself with an AP! Someone told me that a reason why this happenned was because of the overlapping channels (the AP would listen also the probe request on the overlapping channel and therefore would answer to it), but since the channels in use here are 1,6 and 11, they do not overlap as I just found out. What do you think could then cause this enormous number of probe reqest and response? Even after association?
Hope you can help me.
Thanks a lot,
ajpug
