Germain is on a distinguished road
HD drive light Flickering

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is normal that my HD pilot light is always flickering, even when I don't use the computers for Hours.

I am the administrator of a 2 computers' Network, I have a Router and I have a cable modem.

What operating sytem are you using? Need more info...like what programs you are running and stuff

I use Win XP, Office XP, Armor2Net (Firewall), TrackEraser, Lotus Organizer a few more.

I have a Pentium 1.7 with 256 Mg. RAM

Well by default, Windows XP system restore is enabled so that means that you computer is constantly wasting time backing up system information. This can cause your hard drive to be active all the time. Also there is a defragmenter in windows XP that runs when you computer is idle. Also if you have any antivirus program running, it may be scanning files in the background. All of these things running at the same time can really kill system preformance.

right click my computer
click properties
click the system restore tab
check the box to disable it

also look in your scheduled tasks folder and delete any you dont want in there. this is all of them for me, i can scan and defrag when i know i'm not busy.

I deleted the task schedular since a while and it Still flickers.

I had this same problem and it took me quite a while to figure it out what it was. It seems that my CDRW was always searching for a CD and the light would flicker every second. I found it by process of elimination, removing one thing at a time.

About three months later I upgraded my CDRW's Firmware and that was the end of the flickering light..............

It's something to take a look at anyway...........
