Does Commodore still exist? Anyone know what happened to them? Names like that have a lot of sentimentality attached to them. If they put out a PC it would probably get a lot of people just on fond memories.

They seemed to act like a gateway for many people into computing.

Anyone else got a story? If you're board and want to get into the birth of computing, I suggest reading through Dream Machine. It takes you from pre-computer through Turing to the internet, very cool. When you get to the part you've lived through it really comes to life.

What?!

No Atari 400 amongst the lot o 'ye?

Atari 400, early 80s... messed around in BASIC, game cartridges for Star Trek, Wizard of Wor, Sub Commander, Star Fighter (or some such), DigDug, Caverns of Mars, Missile Command. Audio tape drive as long-term storage with Zaxxon and Eastern Front games on tape. Still got 'em, tape drive dead, but machine still fires up and plays on our old 19" TV.

I remember constantly wanting to upgrade to the Atari 800... badly. But never got around to doing so.

doing a search for a thread I started a while ago, and found this. I figure this is an old thread, but why not keep it going a bit longer?

So what's YOUR story of your FIRST computer, or your FAMILY's first computer?
