Is there a way to find the CD-Key of an already installed Windows system?
There reason I ask is because the previous admin at my work lost he CD-Key to our Win2K Server CD. It would really suck if I had to reinstall for some reason and not have that key. I would hate to have to buy another key from MS, so I was wondering if there was a way to extract the data from the running machine?
Try this:
Start, Run, and type "regedit" (without quotes)
Click the plus signs to expand the branches in the Registry until you reach:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr ent Version
Scroll the right pane until you find ProductKey.
Here ya go. Download AIDA32 Enterprise System Information. (It's freeware) After running it, click on "Operating System" and then again on "Operating System". Under "License Information" it will list the product key.
