Re: Upgrading CPU...please advise.

I'm thinking about upgrading my current cpu (P4 1.6) to a P4 2.4 (533Mhz system bus, 512KB L2-Cache, PGA-478PKG) on my Asus P4T-e. I was wondering if I'd come across any significant problems or possible bottle-necks with my current motherboard. Also, I'm using a gig of pc-800 rambus memory...could this also pose as a bottle-neck? I'm assuming it would be best to flash my motherboard first to the latest revision prior to this upgrade. Your thoughts?

According to the Asus site, it does.

Would the 533 system bus version work on a motherboard that has a 400mhz fsb, or should I be looking at the 400mhz bus version of the 2.4Ghz cpu?

It would work most likely, the question is...do you plan on upgrading the motherboard any time soon? If yes, get the faster bus chip.

BTW, Soulja....like the avatars you've been putting out lately...good work.

Unfortunately, the budget's a bit tight right now to spring for a new motherboard. But that's certainly next on the list.

If it's next on the list, wait til you can get both the new 800 mhz fsb pentiums and a springdale or canterwood motherboard; prescott's around the corner (next month supposedly) so prices should drop even further.

the combination of a pentium 4 c and mobo will increase performance DRAMATICALLY over any 533 fsb pentium

Thanks for the advice. I just might hold out for awhile...depends on how bad my compulsive behavior gets. It's been awhile since I've had an upgrade.
