At Home Anandtech Athlon64 Preview

Check this out.

Anandtech has done some extrapolative work with a 2.0GHz Opteron to try and give some sense of what we get to see on September 23 (yay) with the Athlon64 launch.

If the Athlon64 performs anywhere near this (which it promises to), color me excited to see AMD back in the saddle!

What do you chaps think?

I posted this on the news submit page 2 days ago but... it is not updated yet.! (maybe they didn't approved my submission!).

It looks like AMD has a winner on their hands with this one.!
While it was only a preview, it gives us an idea of how the chip will perform in comparison with current offerings.!

hmmm, question, is this a dual 2.0 opteron or a single? I think its single just by reviewing the test setup page time after time..

if so, holy CRAP! dual Xeon 3.06's can barely outperform it in 15% of the tests, imagine dual Athlon64's chugging along.

chalk me up for one of those!

Single 2.0ghz Opteron vs single AthlonXP 3200+ vs single P4 3.0ghz (800mhz fsb) vs DUAL Xeon 3.06ghz (1mb L2 cache)

It's too bad you have to buy ECC memory if you want to run that

Looks like it beats out the dual Xeon in just about everything (excluding Content Creation - who cares )

Hmmm.. about the ECC memory, I think that there is a variant of this cpu that won't need registered memory. (could be mistaken though!)

Probably ... we'll see when there's full support for all this hardware and there's no room for rumors. Hopefully the Athlon64 won't be pushed back another 3 or 4 times.
