CD ROM-Necessary?

Hi Guys. I have a CD Rom. I also now have a CDRW/DVD Rom and a DVD Rom. Do I really need a CD Rom? I would like to remove the CD Rom if it isn`t really needed. Opinions?

some people will say yes keep in it and use it to install programs from the cd so you dont wear down the laser on the cd-rw/dvd. I just use my cd-rw as a burner and regular cd-rom havent had a problem yet

No, you shouldn't need the CD-ROM any more if you don't want it. The DVD-ROM and the CD-RW/DVD should be able to handle everything (regulare cd's, dvd's, CD-R, CD-RW, etc...) Some poeaple like to leave certain cds (game cds) in one drive all the time so that they don't have to load and unload cds so often. But it looks like you don't NEED it. Hope this answers your question.

You don't need it.

AFAIK the CD writers use different lasers for reading and writing so laser burnout shouldn't be a problem.

Yup. CD-RWs have 3 lasers, 1 low intensity for reading, 1 medium intensity for writing, and a 3rd high intensity for wiping clean the data on a cd-rw

You dont need the CD-rom, but unless you're extremely concenered about electrical costs or you have other plans for it, I wouldnt bother taking it out.

Thanx for all the quick replies guys. I felt like I really didn`t need it. I think I`ll pull it out and throw it in my goody box. You know, that box where you keep everything that you probably will never use, but you won`t dare throw it away. Thanx again for your opinions. Always a pleasure doing business here.
