I think you video card was made for DirectX 8 series which means that it doesnt support DirectX 9. I understand that you got bad quality and performance and I think its because of this. I really think that if you dont have a game that needs DirectX 9 then why install it? Most games for now are in DirectX 8 series, but more games are comming for DirectX 9 such as The Matrix, etc. What you need to do is uninstall your DirectX (really dont know how to do this) or if you have Windows XP go back with the system restore to the point where you didnt have DirectX 9. Or if you really need to you can start from the beginning by formatting your HD. I have also had big issues with DirectX 9, for example I have a Geforce 4 MX that supports only DirectX 8 series, when I tried to play games (that I usually dont) the sound was weird and the performance was bad. I hope this helps, and good luck!

I don't think there is an easy way to uninstall DirectX 9. I think MS made it that way on purpose.

"I think you video card was made for DirectX 8 series which means that it doesnt support DirectX 9"

That doesn't mean it CAN'T run DX9.. it just means its not optimized for it.

DX9 is backwards compatible with older cards

Have you tried to run dxdiag?
(start --> run and type 'dxdiag')

run through the tests.

You can uninstall DX9 with a special app (don't know where it is) but I've heard its generally bad for stability.

Have you tried re-installing it to see if maybe it was a bad install?
Just to be sure, maybe even redownload it as it could be a corrupt file.

i agree with vass there should be no real issues running version 9

trying to revert to a previous version of directx would be best done by reinstalling he o/s, directx updates are not something you change your mind on after, like it has been mentioned you would likely introduce instability into the system

the more likely culprit is the video drivers, try updating or reinstalling them

I think Kendro hit the nail on the head when he suggested reinstalling video drivers. I know plenty of people who have had G3Ti200's and DX9 with no probs.

NVidia drivers

That is definately one to try (new drivers) before trying to format/reinstall
