making a message board

hey guys. i want to make a message board like here on techimo. i dont it quite this elaborate, just some place for me and my friends to converse. how hard is it and how would i go about doing this? i have intermediate html skills but thats about it. i run my own http server so im gonna host it myself. i cant really afford to buy any software so i need a free solution if possible.

They are hosts who provide free scripts that do this exact thing. You then customize to your liking.

Ah, I missed the part were you have your own http server. Go to hotscripts.com and look for message board scripts.

Does anyone out there actually know whether or not Kazaa is legal??

Okay, I guess I totally did that wrong. I will try again... I am new!! Does anyone out there know whether or not Kazaa is legal? I would like to continue downloading music and movies, but it is not worth getting fined.

dude, i realize you are new, but first of all, this is the web dev forum, this thread is about me trying to set up a web forum, it has nothing whatsoever to do with kazaa or the legality(sp?) of it. second of all, although there is a large percentage of techimo users that have been known to download music+movies here and there, techimo does not allow discussion of illegal topics such as copyright infringment and how do do it and pirateing software etc. third of all, kazaa is legal but most of the things can can use it for are not. read the faq or something before you post again please

EDIT: btw, when i said i need a free solution, i didnt mean i wanted a pirated copy of some software, i meant i wanted a freeware solution

ok guys. i downloaded phpBB2. it says to install it all i gotta do is open http://mydoman/phpbb2/install/install.php and fill in the requested info and hit submit. well, i open it but it is nothing but code. no text boxes, buttons, anything. just html/php code and i have no idea how to make ie open it as a page. please help im lost...

i guess not bob, im using apache and i never installed any php thing unless it was installed automatically. how do i install it?
