Kids asus CD-RW Drive

i just installed a new Asus CD-RW Drive in my pc. I set the jumper to slave and the CD-ROM drive is set to master. The problem is that the CD-ROM Drive is not being recognized in the bios. How do I fix this problem so that I can burn cd's. Any help would be greatly apreciated.

Normally we set the CR-RW as master, and set the CD-R as slave if on the same IDE channel. I suppose both are on the secondary IDE?..if so, how is each IDE (Primary and Secondary) set to in the BIOS?...some BIOS will have a selection for CD Rom, others are set to auto...mine here is set to none for the secondary channel..and both the CD-RW and CD-R are recognized in BIOS and in Windows.

You could have a defective IDE ribbon cable too..I have seen a few times when one device was detected but another device on the same cable would not be detected

Just a check, is the master on the end connector of the cable and the slave on the middle connector? Also check what Bovon said. I think if you set the bios to auto it should recognize them both. I also agree it might be the cable. Is it a 40 wire or 80 wire cable? I know one of my old cd-roms did not like the 80 wire cable for some strange reason.

both are connected on the same IDE ribbon, the cd-rom was working before the cd-rw was installed, i will try changing the jumpers to see if that helps. In the BIOS the CDRW is set to secondary slave and master is set to none. I no next to nothing about the bios setting, so i try not to mess around with them to much. Thank you for the input. Also I will try another IDE ribbon to see if that helps too.

Not even trying to dispute what you are saying..but try setting the jumper on the CD-RW to master, and the jumper on the CD-R to slave, then reconnect them to the ribbon cable. Like RAR said.. I have also seen zip drives and CDs that did not like the 80 wire IDE cables. CD drives and zip drives will work quite well on the ATA 33 40 wire IDE cables. Put the end of the cable onto the CD-RW and the middle connector on the slave..be very carefull to get the red tracer on the ribbon cable in the IDE socket with that red tracer wire next to where the power cable plugs into..while you are checking and resetting the jumpers, look good at all of the pins in the sockets..very easy to bend one over and still get the cable on..but it will not work.

In the BIOS, set both the master and slave on the secondary IDE channel to CD Rom..if that dosn't work..go back and set both to none..try that...and also try setting both to auto...but...set both the same way each time.

Thanks guys, I set switched the jumpers as suggested and that did the trick. I do appreciate all the input on solving this problem. I don't know a lot about pc's, but the techimo site has helped me out a lot. Thanks

I have a Pioneer DVD ROM & a Pioneer DVD RW. Both on the same
cable. Rom master Rw is slave. They are on the IDE 2. works well.
They do require an 80 conductor cable.
