computer illiterate, sort of

I know how to use a computer but the making of and in a computer confuse me. Hubby suggested I sign on to TecImo so I did. I usually go to the community and read posts. So now I am getting board and would like to start to learn about all those abrevations and how to build or how to add and update. We had a local business build this computer and have windows 98, the rest I have forgotten. This machine seems so out dated. So where do I start?

Don't worry Rubyred, if you run across an acronym you don't know, or don't understand even when you find out what it is short for, just pop on back here and we'll try to help you understand what it means.

Good luck, it's a long journey ahead, but one worth traveling. I'd pick up a copy of PCtricks magazine if you have one available. Their learning series has taught me an awful lot about the inner workings of computers.

I have bookmarked all these sites for future reference, I don't have the time right now to take a good look at them since I am back to work. I will eventually lose this thread and don't want to lose the information.

If you want to learn with great detail how things work, such as video card architecture, you should read some of the articles at http://anandtech.com

One of the latest articles has something like 21 pages of how video cards work and what the certain processing components of the video card are. Very good site for articles
