Systems No thumbnail view - Windows 2000 pro

In Windows 2000 when using the "thumbnail view" mode in Explorer.. it doesn't show a preview of the .jpg or .mpg files anymore, just an icon of the default app it will open it with.

How do i get the preview mode back with thumbnails to work again in Windows 2000 Pro?

Thanks.

Send a message via Yahoo to kendo
is it broke? thumbnail view will display

bmp - gif - jpg - jpeg - htm/l

files that cannot be displayed are displayed with their default icons default icons

there are a couple of reasons it won't work

possibly a third party application has reassociated the file types e.g. installing photoshop mskb

uninstalling microsoft photo editor can cause this to happen if this is the case mskb

The last suggestion worked perfectly!

I did install the latest beta of MS Office 2003 (which by the way does not have photo editor). So that was the problem.

Thank you very much.

How about GIF's?

I also have upgraded to O2003 and lost thumbnails. Found this post, and it worked for jpegs, but I still can't see gifs. Any thoughts?

GIFs

The Same Registry entry restores GIFs, as I just found out. Thanks to all!

Yes, you can get similiar functionality from Windows 98. The trick is you need to right click on the folder that contains the pictures you want to thumbnail and hit properties. There should be a check box entitled "enable thumbnails" or some such. It should work fine after that.
