(85$)newegg = AMD XP 2400+ (2.0ghz)(Socket A)
(72$)Ebay = Lite-On (16xDVD w/ 52x32x52x cd-rw)
(45$)Ebay = Mid-Tower (ATX case w/300w Lite-On PSU)
(80$)Ebay = WD 40GB HD (7200rpm 8mb)
(82$)newegg = Apacer 512 DDR
(28$)newegg = GF2 MX-400

apacer is a brand on newegg..they seem ok, and have used there memory for other comps too...not bad....

games i play:

rollercoaster tycoon+expansions, heroes of might and magic, sim city and a few other basic games...some half life online too...half life was the most grafically challenging game i own...

other than that ill be using basic programs...

If you're into gaming AT ALL I would upgrade that video card. And for $7 extra you could turn that Apacer memory stick into a Crucial stick. Definitely worth the extra there.

300W should work.

If you are planning on playing HL2 (release 9/30) then I would definitely upgrade the card... and consider the mobo as well (best to an nForce2). Keep in mind that the K7S5A is based on sis735 which is really three, almost four generations old. I realize that this is supposed to be a budget system but I always think in terms of future, even near future viability. You want to make sure that you're not stuck with a machine you're not happy with.

Edit: one more thing, at the price you are considering for the ATX case and the fans ($45+$12=$57) I would consider getting the Antec SLK3700 case, which comes with a 350W PSU included as well as a rear 120mm fan (the front 120mm fan bracket is empty). newegg is still out of stock on it, but ExcaliberPC has it for $65+$15=$80 shipped.
