Gaming Need help choosing motherboard ASAP

The heavens have parted and a ray of broadband hope smiles upon me.

My local cable provider is offering a limited time deal: free modem, free installation, and only 19.95/month until Jan '04. Because I heard about this so late, I have roughly one week to order the components for a new computer for my mother (the money provider) so she can use (and thus, pay for) the service.

I have selected an Athlon XP 2200 to build her system around. I am looking for a stable/cheap motherboard with an AGP slot (For a Radeon 9100...tee hee), support for DDR, and decent (if possible) onboard sound.

Also, what type of DDR RAM would couple well with the XP 2200? Is the 2200 fast enough to warrant getting 2700 RAM?

Note: This system will not be overclocked.

Thanks for any/all help.

my suggestion:

k7s5a Pro at newegg for 47$ shipped(new), and upgrade for the extra 11$ and get a xp 2400 (2.0ghz) retail box. if your new to this forum newegg is a very trustworthy company..just bought half my components there.

ps: ddr memory-->try to pull atleast a 256 stick for it at pc2100 or better...2100 is pretty much basic equipment today...

Truckie, Juggalo King!!!

PSS: welcome to techimo..youll like it here

site addy: www.newegg.com

most items have free shipping too...

k7s5a pro: onboard sound/4usb/1-4x agp slot/5-pci slots/ddr-or-sdram(2 slots each up to 1gb)/mouse/keyboard/parallel/game/built in nic....not bad for 47$

Thanks for the help, you two. I figure I can wait until Monday to place the order and still get everything on time. More suggestions would be great. Anyone else?

8RDA+ is no more at NewEgg...to many RMA's of late I guess ( myself included - 2 of them ).

I'll second the quality and reliability of the ECS board Truckie recommended, my wife has the non pro version and it runs without a hiccup ( and mine was a garage sale special! )

I have to find a new Mobo myself since Newegg is refunding my Epox price since they no longer stock those boards....hmmm, what to get?
