Shuttle SB61G2 Suggestions, Please.

For reasons only readers of this board would understand, I want to build a Shuttle SB61G2 small form factor box, using Win2k. Good or bad idea? I have, sitting in a box somewhere, an new WD 120 Gig hd, with an 8 meg buffer. In another box, I have an unused ATI All-In-Wonder (7500; 64 mb) video card. I want to use both of these items. Does that make sense? I am considering a P4 2.4c CPU and compatible ram (at least 512 mb). Thoughts on the CPU and ram? What vendors should I consider? Does this Shuttle need a retail cpu/fan combo, or does an oem chip work wth the cooling arrangement in this box? For the sake of appearances, should the CD or DVD or other optical drive have a bezel with a color other that beige or black so as to match this aluminum box? What recommendations?

TIA

I've been considering the same. From a review I read, they used a P4 HT 2.4GHz (800MHz FSB) and overclocked it to ~3.0GHz (1GHz FSB) using the stock cooling, and it was stable.

Seeing the potential of the 2.4, I'd go with one of those and if need be - overclock it. The Bios supports overclocking of the fsb in 1mhz intervals, up to 255mhz (x4) I believe.

If you want to go nutz I've seen one watercooled shuttle box, very impressive.

The sb51g2 supports both ata and serial ata so either drive would work.

As for the bezel, you can removed the front of your drive and spray paint it, or just get a black bezel as black on silver has a cool look (that's what I'm doing, it will go well with my black and silver logitec wireless keyboard/mouse, black/silver samsung lcd, and black/silver toshiba 2000 lappy )

I'll eventually make it into a DVR with an ati all-in-wonder, but for now I'll settle with the gf4 I already have.

For the PCI slot I'm debating my tv-wonder or audigy (I'll have to hear the onboard surround sound first)

2.6GHz 800 fsb
512mb ddr 3500 Kinston hyperX at 433MHz
WD 36GB HDD, SATA
Sony DVD writer 510AX
G-Force FX 5600 with 256 ddr
shuttle multi card reader
-------------------------------------------------------
Overclocking:

with 3:2 Ratio

cpu clock : 250
memory frequency: 333 (with 400, computer won't start)
mutiplier: 13 (i don't know how to change this)
with all voltage at auto

the result from wcpuid:

internal clock: 3128.05 MHz
system clock: 240.62 MHz
system bus: 962.48 MHz
multiplier: 13

Ive built a couple of them---they come with a heatsink/fan---the P4 heatpipe works pretty well, consider a dvd/cdrw combo drive if you can, I painted the drives with vinyl dye (Fusion) for a more pleasing appearance, great little boxes...
