UPS Backup Advice?

Was thinking about getting:

APC BK350 Back-UPS 350VA - RETAIL
(or)
TriPro Power POW-700AS POWER PLUS UPS

Any suggestions? I get much more bang for my buck on the TriPro Power, but APC is a trusted name. Just looking for some advice.

I would be purchasing two of these to support three three servers, a DSL modem and two switches.

Any thoughts?

-Chris

Well the TriPro looks to be alot more powerfull, but you probably get better software with the APC so, i dont really know, depends is shutdown software is important.

350VA is awefully small. And with having the modem and swiches on it they are completely unable to be shut down so they will drain the UPS all the way if the outage is long enough. Plus you have the 3.3v drain with the servers/computers. There really isn't much of a difference in the uptime. But the 700 is closer to what you would need.

If you are running 3 servers and all the other stuff I would run at least 500VA to each server plus that 350VA (or lower) for the switches and DSL modem. If you want any kind of running time.

A 700VA will run those servers for maybe a couple (less than 5)minutes.

Myself I run 2 different USP's a 700VA for my main machine the 2500+ and my 17" monitor and a 500VA for my 1.4G and speakers, router, DSL. With a power outage I'm running about 17 min uptime.

I guess it's how long you want power for? If it's only a couple of minutes you'd be fine with maybe just one... but I would go for one of each. the 700 for 2 machines and the 350 for one machine and all the other stuff.

You might get some more ideas on what others are running in this thread and poll about ups units

thanks for all the suggestions guys!

I'm looking for a running time of about 5minutes. just to avoid the reboots the servers suffer on short outages.

was mainly concerned about the brand. i like the idea of the Conext though. i'll be looking into that more... so any ideas on the TriPro Power brand?

There's a deal over at Staples on an Energizer 450VA Home UPS with usb connection. It's only $15 after $30 rebate. Rebate expires tomorrow. There's a $5 coupon code # 77635 for orders over $25
http://www.staples.com/Catalog/Brows...e=1&Sku=503468
If the link doesn't work look for item #503468
I don't know the quality. But the price is sure good after rebate.

not bad, I think I'll get that for the modem and odd stuff like switches.

any cheap suggestions for the servers? I have three of em to backup. I was thinking of getting a 700VA Conext for each of the servers. Or is that TriPro Power brand any good?

I would recommend APC. They have solid products and I've taken them up on their lifetime warranty. At my work there was a huge surge (more powerful then what the UPS was rated to handle) that blew out the UPS and the equipment that got through.

Called up APC, sent them the dead UPS and they replaced it and sent us the money to replace our equipment.
