Kids Z-680 Stereo x2 effect

Ok, when using the Stereo x2 effect on the Z-680's, how loud are everyone's rear speakers? Are they as loud as the front ones? 'Cos I was under the impression that Stereo x2 should, y'know, create Stereo twice. My rear speakers are barely audible, especially compared to the front ones. This happens whatever source I use, and whether I use analog or digital input.

Logitech tech support told me to turn up the rear speaker volume in Windows... an interesting suggestion considering we're only talking about stereo...

Or am I missing something?!??

On my Altech Lancing 641's I have a control pad with a Mode selector. This changes between Stereo/Stereo X 2/Gaming.

If I select the Stereo X 2 and hold the button down while selecting it, it changes the volume control to the rear speakers for volume adjustment purposes. The LED's indicate a low volume and I turn up the volume. (Maximum of course.) The LED's return to master volume all on their in a few seconds.

See if you have similar features.

If this isn't applicable, does your sound card support 5.1?

If yes, make sure your wiring hook-up is correct.

Cheers!

Read your manual. Hold the mode button down for a second and the volume button turns into a rear speaker adjustment. I'm able to adjust the volume on the rear speakers. After a few seconds the volume control turns back to a master.

Cheers!

If you are running the Altec Lansing, 4.1's, open your manual to page 4, right hand column, paragraph 3.

Rear Volume Level Adjustments

Cheers!

thanx, that's basically what i needed to know. the firmware on my control pod is 1.03, which is the version that had some problems with excessive hissing - maybe it had a dodgy x2 effect as well?!

How can you tell which firmware your Z-680 pod has?

[edit] Amazing what a little research will uncover:

Put the control pod in stand-by mode (press the "off" button beneath the volume dial) and press and hold the "input" and "settings" button together for five seconds. The ROM version will display on the lcd for a few seconds.

Apparently mine is v1.1.2.

mine are 1.03, and the stereo 2x doesn't work right either. But thats ok as i just use the 6 channel settings. Much better IMO.

Just in case anyone still looks at this:

After much repeated complaining to Logitech (europe), they sent me a new control pod (v1.1.2). The stereo x2 effect now works, there's practically no hissing (wasn't that bad before anyway) and I swear that the whole set sound crisper (esp. the sub).

If you've got a pod that's v1.03 I'd seriously consider speakin to Logitech - didn't cost me anythin

Fair enough, but usin the 6 channel settings means u lose quite a bit of clarity from a stereo recording - it's just a personal preference thing i guess
