Linux help

I have Mandrake 9.1 installed. I have 2 problems.

1) My sound is not working. I'm guessing I may need a new driver for my sound card? But Mandrake does recognize the device.. and has the information for it. If I do need a new driver, where would i find it? MFR website possibly?

2) I'm having trouble mounting one of my hard drives. I have 3, 1 is My Windows, 1 Is my Linux and the other is just a bumch of media files recognized in Windows as NTFS, but Linux is saying it's not the proper file system to mount?? Any ideas?

I will be working on these problems when I can during the day, but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Matt

For the sound issue

On a new install of mandrake open up kmix and make sure that the volume is turn up and the mute is not on.

Linux can read NTFS only if that option is complied into the kernel, and when you mount it you have to specify the FS type, and a whole bunch of junk.... and Linux can read NTFS ok, but i hear writing to it, can break NTFS real good

Thanks for the sound tip got it to work.... though my speakers seem to have a lot of distortion in them ?? Possibly a linux problem?

Also, I did specify it as an NTFS system, but Linux was still unable to detect it for some reason...

look in kmix for the settings on the sound output..... don't crank it to 100% ......... put it at about 75% of max and then just use your speakers volume if they have that......... also check the speaker icon in the bottom right of the kde tray on your desktop.....make sure it's not turned to max volume either.
