uh-oh! BIOS boot-disk? update gone wrong...

G'day.

Well i took some advice from another thread and decided to update my BIOS, I have a gigabyte GA-6VXE7+ m/b and i went to the gigabyte website, downloaded the flash bios update for my board (i checked, double checked then triple checked the model number!), downloaded the @BIOS windows installer, followed the instructions TO THE LETTER, installed the new BIOS, got a message saying "installation successful, for the changes to take effect you must restart your computer", restarted the computer and..... nothing.

a got a few beeps, thats all. I tried doing all sorts of things (such as pulling things out etc and seeing if it works now....??? no). interesting thing: it seems to check the a: (1.44mb FDD) because i could hear it, and when i unplugged it and re-tried, it made a different beeping noise.

is there a way i can reset my original BIOS using a boot disk?? or do i need to buy a new motherboard?

its actually my dads computer, so i would like to fix it if possible, but he MAY use it as an excuse to upgrade methinks.

"got a few beeps."

please describe the beeps.

three short beeps and so forth. those beeps are bios error codes to help you figure out what the problem is

okay hold up a sec...

one long beep followed immediately by two short beeps.

then it checks the a: and there is a high tone then low tone when there is no disk (sounds like when you die in a very old computer game like digger or something)

If you can boot to the same floppy that you did the BIOS update with you should able to install the old BIOS.
When you installed the new BIOS the program should have prompted you to save the old BIOS to the floppy.
If the old BIOS was not saved to disk. the websight you got the new BIOS from should have older versoins also

i used @BIOS its a windows based bios updater. i never used a floppy boot disk, is there somewhere i can obtain the format for one? i did save the old BIOS (as recommended) but its on the hard drive which i of course cannot access...

btw the monitor just stays black the whole time, if thats another indication of the problem? i have the original CD that came with the m/b though, i think it has the original BIOS.

The boot disk you need only has command.com on it.
Then you need the flash utility for your BIOS and the BIOS you want to install all on the same floppy disk.
The gigabyte sight will have the flash and the BIOS
