Drivers...Sony Drivers...

Greetings all,

I have been working on a machine for a customer here and I have reached a brick wall. All I need for this computer is a simple sound driver, but everything that I feed it doesn't take. Sometimes I will find a driver that I can force to install, but all the pieces never work:

The computer is a Sony Vaio PCG-F590 notebook running Win98SE

Please help me! I'm about 98% sure the driver is a Yamaha DS-XG, but I've loaded that one multiple times to no avail. Do I have the wrong audio chip? Does Sony require a special driver from them? Sony's website didn't help me at all!

Thanks in advance!!

ugh! Is this the page your gettin?
I'll do some more searching. Some support they provide.

<edit> Thats not the actual page i was at. It was the support page for that laptop. Then I went to original drivers. Absolutely nothing.<\edit>

I spent about 25 minutes googling and came up dry. Sony's web site sucks! Even the specs on the site fail to say what sound card is integrated in the system.

Did you reinstall from a restore CD from Sony or from an ordinary 98 CD? Maybe you need the restore CD for the driver.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Bill

Thanks for all the effort so far!

Yeah zen, that's the page i got! Irritating eh?

Bill, I'm starting to agree with you. I imaged their system from another laptop (CPQ Presario) and reinstalled all the necessary hardware drivers for the new system. Sound is the only picky one, I hesitate to ask the customer to bring in the restore CD, but I may need it.

I'll try a few in the list that Droppyale presented when I get to work, but they look like some I've tried.

Sheesh!

Thanks again to you guys who tried to help!

After some searching, I found the audio chip number on a linux forum (always the best place for specifics ). It's a Yamaha YMF-744B chip (the B is the killer).

I searched driver guide for this chip # and got a WDM driver that loaded up first try...YAY!

Thanks again, guys!
