Multiple HDDs

Ok, I wrote in before about installing XP to a SATA drive. I got that to work. I found the specific drivers I needed. Now, let me give the system info again.

Gigabyte Mobo: GA-N700 Pro2
AMD Athlon 2600+
Maxtor 80 GB SATA HDD
CD-RW/CD on IDE 2
FDD
Running XP Pro (all critical updates installed to date)

I have two more HD's I'd like to instal. 20 GB Western Digital and ~12 GB Quantum Fireball (or something like that). When I instal the drives on IDE 1 (in any combination so far) with what I believe are the correct jumper settings, the BIOS does not register the additional drives and boots normally to the SATA drive. Question #1, WHY? How can I get the system to recognize those drives?

Now, if I instal the drives to IDE3 (on the built in RAID of this Mobo) they are recognized by BIOS. If I set the Bios boot order to SCSI (and then SATA), CD, then finally Floppy it boots an old Win 98 operating system on one of the drives I am installing on IDE3. Question #2, WHY? I am unsure of myself here. So feel free to explain that you need more info or why I did something foolish.

Thanks very much for any help you can provide.

My experience has been many times when mixing different brand name HD’s
things like this do happen. They seem to not recognize each other & all want
to be the master. I assume you know this but I’ll mention it anyway, on many
HD’s removing all jumpers set it as a slave, & that seems to have some luck
sometimes with getting them to work together.

Do you have the bios set to auto detect or user defined?
Some bios have a special menu just for hdd detection.
You shouldn't have any problem using diff drives, as long as your jumpers are set correctly.
