difference between dvd -R and +R

hey i am looking at dvd burner and i have no idea wat the difference between -R and +R means and if i need a certain one to burn dvds the dvd burner says dvd -+R/rw so is that wat i need to put dvds on a disk from the net

They are just different technologies. -R is about 95% compatible with players and +R is about 85% compatible. -R blanks are usually cheaper too. +-R/RW means it can burn either type of blank.

If you use the +R format, just remember to get +RW discs instead of +R. There is still a good bit of newer electronics that will not read +R (but will usually read +RW).

Get a +-r/rw burner and -r/rw medias That's what I have, and works like a champ.

The only problem is those are more expensive. It would be nice if a clear winner for the standard would emerge SOON so we wouldn't have to put up with both technologies costing so much.

My opinion is DVD-R/W will be the standard (like CD-RW is the standard for CD Burning) ... it's more compatible with other DVD players and seems to be cheaper.

My dad had a Pioneer DVDROM ... it died in a few months. I would not WASTE my money on a Pioneer drive ... I'd buy the TDK +/-RW burner if anything

I have the Pioneer A04 DVD burner and it works like a champ. I have had it since january.
