Old M/B, Gigabyte GA-6VXE7+ IRQ Prob

My Motherboard is pretty old, like the rest of my computer (i am going to upgrade very soon, ideas for new comp posted in another thread)

I am running a PIII 667mhz processor, GeForce2 64MB MX100/200, Aureal Vortex 2, Gigabyte GA-6VXE7+ MB, 320MB SDRAM, Windows 2000 Professional, CD-R/RW (not sure of brand, 32x10x40), 3 IDE HDD's (Seagate Medalist 6422, 6.4GB; cant remember the other two), 1.44mb floppy, and i think 2 pci usb controllers but im not 100% sure.

i read somewhere that the video card shouldnt share an IRQ with anything else, my problem is that my video card is sharing IRQ 11 with
a)VIA USB Universal Host Controller (3 instances of this)
b)Vortex Multifunction PCI Parent
c)Aureal Vortex 8830 Audio
d)VIA PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller
e)Intel(R) Pro/100B PCI Adapter (TX)

I was wondering if this is what is causing some problems i am having with my system crashing? Can i force IRQ's with this motherboard? If so, how?

My other problem is that i am unsure whether this MB can support the GF2, on the nvidia website (under troubleshooting) it mentions that the mb needs AGP 2.0 which im not sure that this one has, and would this make a difference as both mb and gf2 support agp 2x?

thanks in advance

alex

IRQ sharing is not a problem. Don't listen to the myth spinners, just leave it alone.
When you got crashes, investigate toward bad drivers or hardware. RAM test goes first - www.memtest86.com - next is questioning the power supply. Particularly when you already feel like you've pushed it too far with that GF2. (But if it's a GF2MX, then don't worry.)

Try the following to see if this helps the IRQ situation:
In the PNP/PCI configuration in the BIOS "PNP OS installed" select 'NO' and let the BIOS control resources set to 'AUTO'. As for the AGP question, you should probably send tech support an e-mail and ask them unless someone else is familiar with the board.

thanks guys, ill ignore the IRQ myth. As for the AGP 2.0, im still unsure, but i downloaded the updated drivers for my m/b and it says it updated the AGP to support 3.0 but i had the idea that was a hardware problem not software. anyway thanks for the help.
