XP Pro will not activate me anymore

I have exceeded the maximum # of installations permitted for this product key?

Is this for real?

I am going to calm down eat some lunch and then call MS. Has anyone ever encountered this before?

It is not like I am trying anything illegal. i just like to re-install when I remove things like Office or anti-virus programs.

Just call MS. You should not have any problems.

All it takes is a very simple phone call to clear it up.

As said above just give them a call. They will ask you a couple questions. Then you will have to read off tons of numbers to them and then they will have you enter tons of numbers. Takes about 5-9 minutes, but there is no easy way around it.

Takes about 20 minutes or so when you include holding and telling them the number then them telling you a number.
When they ask how many computers XP is installed on, say 1. When they ask why you are installing it, tell them you were hit by Blaster.

If you say the worm hit you, they will give you a number back with no questions asked. If you say you are reinstalling for some other reason, they'll ask more questions.

Shawn...
Maybe I've just been lucky but the last couple times I had to (re)activate by phone, it took -- maybe -- all of five minutes, total. Just have a pen and paper handy.
