How do I record a playing sound?

Hi, is there a software that can record a playing sound to a wave file? I don't wanna place the microfone next the speaker while the PC is playing the sound and the microphone recording software is running too as this may record unwanted noise! Here's what I want: Say there's a game running and playing a music or sound, I wanna record that music/sound while it's running! I know this kind of software must exist, but I don't know any! Where can I get one? Thanks in advance!

MusicMatch Jukebox has this capability, as does J River's Media Center, which is by far the best program for audio on the market (much better than MMJB).

Goldwave works nicely. So does CoolEditPro... if you can afford $99.
